Company Overview
Incorporated in 2007, change:healthcare is a healthcare IT company working with self-insured employers to provide employees with transparency around the cost and quality of healthcare services and prescriptions to reduce costs. The company has created a web-based platform that monitors a company’s claims data 24/7. When a service or prescription is available for less, the recommendation engine presents step-by-step “Ways to Save” alerts tailored to each employee, and then tracks resulting savings as a hard dollar ROI.
change:healthcare is seeking to change the way people purchase healthcare by removing the information imbalance between the patient, the provider (physician, specialist, hospital) and the payor (insurance company). Our process is unique in that we produce cost savings without plan design changes or cost shifting. The information is personalized and we provide an immediate ROI to clients.
We have one goal for employees faced with a discretionary expense:
Know More. Pay Less.
Founders
Christopher Parks, co-Founder and CEO, is a seasoned healthcare executive who has held roles with Healthways, Healthcare Microsystems, National Seating & Mobility and Global Healthcare Exchange.
Robert Hendrick, co-Founder and COO, is a veteran technology entrepreneur executive who has worked with internet-related companies including Creative Syndicate, EdgeNet Media and IncLabs.
History
change:healthcare was founded in 2006 by Parks following the cancer death of his parents which forced him to deal with the magnitude of healthcare paperwork and expenses for their prolonged care. Co-founder Robert Hendrick’s similar struggles with $250,000 in bills for newborn twin daughters drove him to join Parks. Determining there had to be a way to bring order and control to the excessive cost generated by today’s healthcare system, they united programmers from across the globe with a mission to change healthcare. The company is a leader in the Health 2.0 movement, which is using the internet to bring transparency to the healthcare industry.
Products
The company’s “Recommendation Platform” alerts consumers about when and where they’re paying too much for prescription and medical service purchases and provides step-by-step directions that anyone can follow. These “Ways to Save” alerts identify specific, actionable cost-saving opportunities. One recent innovation includes a Twitter application that allows users to have both pharmaceutical costs and medical information delivered to their fingertips while on the go.
